Registration closes 48 hours prior to the start of each course. Classes indicating "CLOSED" mean simply that registration has been closed. Not that the class has been cancelled. Unless otherwise noted all classes are American Heart Association. A two person minimum must now be met for all classes.

    ACLS is an advanced, instructor-led classroom course that highlights the importance of team dynamics and communication, systems of care and immediate post-cardiac-arrest care. It also covers airway management and related pharmacology. In this course, skills are taught in large, group sessions and small, group learning and testing stations where case-based scenarios are presented.

    The Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider Classroom Course by The American Heart Association is designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals the ability to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED, and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner. Covers adult, child,& infant.

    Audience: This course is for healthcre professionals who need to know how to perform CPR, as well as other lifesaving skills, in a wide variety of in-hospital and out-of-hospital settings.

    Course Length: 3.5 hours

    Course Fee:  $30.00 (Buffalo/Kenmore) / $40.00 (Rochester/Brighton)

      • As per the AHA a textbook is required and may be purchased in advance from Laerdal, Channing Bete, Worldpoint, Amazon, AbeBooks or in person at Barnes & Noble. Instructors will not check to see if you have one.

    The PALS Course is for healthcare providers who respond to emergencies in infants and children. These include personnel in emergency response, emergency medicine, intensive care and critical care units such as physicians, nurses, paramedics and others who need a PALS course completion card for job or other requirements.

    This classroom, video-based, Instructor-led course uses a series of simulated pediatric emergencies to reinforce the important concepts of a systematic approach to pediatric assessment, basic life support, PALS treatment algorithms, effective resuscitation and team dynamics. The goal of the PALS Course is to improve the quality of care provided to seriously ill or injured children, resulting in improved outcomes.

      To renew certification through the CHALLENGE, all steps of the AHA BLS sequence with adult and infant CPR must be performed correctly with a score of 75% or above on our skill test manikin. In addition to scoring, the Challenge ends at the first mistake made.  Failed Challenges cannot reattempt or sign up again at a later date to reattempt, but rather be referred to an AHA traditional class or an AHA online course with an associated skills check. There are no refunds for failed performances or discounts for classes.

      You MUST have a valid AHA, ARC OR NSC BLS card not to be expired more than 1 year. 

      Those with expired certification cards are not eligible. A valid card must be presented at time of appointment. Enrolling in this course without a valid card will result in a $15 fee if you choose to enroll in another course.

        Course Overview

        BLS is the foundation for saving lives after cardiac arrest. This course teaches both single-rescuer and team basic life support skills for application in both in-facility and prehospital settings (students choose one of these two tracks when completing HeartCode BLS). The BLS course is designed for healthcare professionals and other personnel who need to know how to perform CPR and other basic cardiovascular life support skills.

        After successfully completing the BLS course, students should be able to:

        • describe the importance of high-quality CPR and its impact on survival
        • describe all the steps of the Chain of Survival and apply the BLS concepts of the Chain of Survival
        • recognize the signs of someone needing CPR
        • perform high-quality CPR on adults, children, and infants
        • describe the importance of early AED use and demonstrate using one
        • provide effective ventilations with a barrier device
        • describe the importance of teams in multirescuer resuscitation and perform as an effective team member during multirescuer CPR
        • describe the technique for relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (choking) for adults and infants.

        Key Features and Benefits

        HeartCode BLS is the online portion of the BLS course when taken in a blended-learning format. It uses a variety of eLearning assets -- such as dramatizations, eSimulations, animations, self-directed learning, and interactive activities -- to teach students BLS knowledge and skills. After completing the online portion, including passing the online exam with a score of 84% or higher, students attend a structured Instructor-led classroom session that focuses on meaningful skills practice, debriefing, team scenarios, discussions of local protocols, and skills testing.

          This Skills Session is for students who have completed the online portion of the Heartcode® BLS for Healthcare Providers course. It involves a brief practice session followed by a check of the student's skill at performing 1- and 2-rescuer CPR for an adult and infant. Most Skills Sessions last between 30 & 60 minutes. 

           

          AUDIENCE: This course is for healthcare professionals who need to know how to perform CPR, as well as other lifesaving skills, in a wide variety of in-hospital and out-of-hospital settings.

            Heartsaver® CPR AED by The American Heart Association is a classroom, video-based, instructor-led course that teaches adult/child and infant CPR, AED use, as well as how to relieve choking.

            AUDIENCE: This course is for anyone with limited or no medical training who needs a course completion card in CPR and AED use to meet job, regulatory or other requirements. If you are a healthcare provider (CNA, HHA, PCA, RN, nursing student, MD, PA, EMT, dental anything. counselors of any type, OT, PT COTA PTA, etc.), this class is NOT for you. If you work for Supplemental, Favorites, Maxim, Brylin, TYTY, Catholic Health, Kaleida Health or U of R once again this class is NOT for you.

            Course Length: 3.5 hours

            Course Fee:  $40.00 (Buffalo/Kenmore) / $50.00 (Rochester/Brighton)

            The American Heart Association’s Heartsaver First Aid course effectively delivers the most comprehensive first aid training in the industry. This class is tailored to both employees of local companies as well as the general public.

            Topics covered include first aid management of common medical conditions including chest pain, bleeding, shortness of breath, stroke and diabetes. 

            AUDIENCE: All / Anyone

            Class Length: 2.5 hours

            The American Heart Association Heartsaver First-aid/CPR/AED class covers the following Adult based First Aid topics: bleeding control, seizures, epi pen use, allergic reactions, snake bites, broken bones, poisoning. It also includes CPR for Adults, chokesaving, how to use an AED (automated external defibrillators), and other life threatening emergencies. Hands-Only infant CPR & Choking included, however certification is Adult Only. This course is for renewing, recertification, or initial students. There are not any official lunch breaks in this course but there will be breaks on the hour.

            Audience: All / Anyone (Not for Healthcare, Coaches or Childcare). If you are a healthcare provider (CNA, HHA, PCA, RN, nursing student, MD, PA, EMT, dental anything. counselors of any type, OT, PT COTA PTA, etc.), this class is NOT for you. If you work for Supplemental, Favorites, Maxim, Brylin, TYTY, Catholic Health, Kaleida Health or U of R once again this class is NOT for you. If you are seeking personal training certification this class is not for you.

            Course Length: 5.0 hours

            The Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid CPR and AED course is a credentialed course specially designed to train those responsible for children's health in meeting state-specific requirements. This course is backed by comprehensive state-by-state research, and is formatted to allow instructors to customize it to include all topics required. Course modules cover CPR, AED, first-aid basics, medical emergencies, injury emergencies, environmental emergencies, and optional topics.

            AUDIENCE: This course is for education and child-care professionals, recreation and community program staff, new parents, guardians, and other caretakers dealing directly with children and infants.

            Course Length: 5.0 hours
